Route 28 Traffic Shift, Bridge Improvement Work Slated Through Friday

Here's a traffic update.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be working on two sections of Route 28 through Friday, Nov. 16.

Bridge Inspection in Etna

Bridge inspection activities on southbound Route 28 at the Route 8 Etna Interchange in Allegheny County will occur on Thursday, Nov. 15, weather permitting.

Southbound lane closures will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday. PennDOT’s Bridge Inspection Team will conduct the work.

Alpha Drive Bridge

Work to mill and resurface the deck on the bridge that carries Alpha Drive over Route 28 n O’Hara will occur through Friday, weather permitting.  

PennDOT’s Allegheny County bridge maintenance unit is performing the work. Alpha Drive will be closed through approximately 5 p.m. on Friday. Traffic will be detoured using Gamma Drive and Beta Drive through RIDC Industrial Park.

About 2,220 vehicles use this bridge on an average day, according to PennDOT.

Lane Shifts Near Millvale

Traffic on northbound Route 28 in Millvale will be shifted onto the new roadway between East Ohio Street and the 40th Street Bridge on Friday, weather permitting.

The shift will begin at 9 a.m. and should be completed by 3 p.m. Friday. Motorists should expect delays and possible stop conditions while the work occurs.

When the shift is completed, northbound traffic will remain in a single lane using the new roadway traveling under the area that will be the new 31st Street Bridge/Rialto Street interchange.
