Security Cameras to be Installed at Larry Mills Park

Recent acts of criminal mischief at the Plum Borough park have sparked a conversation about the need for increased security.

Plum Council has agreed to invest in security cameras at .

On Monday, officials agreed to spend up to $15,000 on the equipment, which would monitor the park—located off O'Block Road on Fontana Drive.

There have been many acts of vandalism at the park within the last month, including —borough-owned and those of private contractors working at the location—that were parked there overnight.

"It's a shame we need to do this," said Councilman Len Szarmach.

Borough Manager Mike Thomas said that while the purchase of security cameras was not included in the budget, the borough just sold out-of-use borough vehicles for $28,000.

Councilman Mike Doyle said the people responsible for any vandalism and criminal mischief at the park will be caught. He said in the long run, the cameras will pay for themselves because it could save the borough from having to pay for property damage.

Mayor Rich Hrivnak suggested officials consider adding security cameras to all borough-owned parks in the future.
