Several Highway Restrictions to Occur Thursday Night

Here's a traffic update from PennDOT.

PennDOT District 11 is announcing restrictions on Route 28, on the Parkway East and the Parkway West on Thursday night, Sept. 22.

Single-Lane Restrictions on Route 28

Traffic on southbound (inbound) Route 28 in Millvale Borough will be reduced to a single, 11-foot wide lane, weather permitting.

Crews will be removing an overhead sign structure. Brief traffic stoppages of 15 minutes or less will also occur as needed in both directions. Restrictions will occur from 8 p.m. on Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday between the 40th Street Bridge and the Chestnut Street overpass.

An alternate route for outbound traffic wishing to avoid the work zone is provided using the 16th Street Bridge to Liberty Avenue, to Butler Street through Lawrenceville, and to the 40th Street Bridge or the Highland Park Bridge to bypass the work zone.

Squirrel Hill Tunnel/Parkway East

Single-lane restrictions in the outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will occur.

Crews will be performing maintenance inside the outbound tunnel. Single lane closures will occur from 10 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

Fort Pitt Tunnel/Parkway West

The inbound (eastbound) Fort Pitt Tunnel on the Parkway West (I-376) will be closed.

The closure will occur from 9 p.m. Thursday through 4 a.m. Friday. The outbound tunnel will remain open and unrestricted. The Liberty Tunnel also will remain open in both directions on Thursday night to accommodate the traffic.

PennDOT maintenance crews will be milling and paving the inbound Parkway West near the tunnel entrance and garage.

Signs will be posted to guide motorists onto northbound Route 51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard/West End Exit 69C) to the West End to eastbound Carson Street (Route 837) to the inbound Fort Pitt Bridge.

Motorists are advised to use caution and allow extra time when traveling on Route 28. PennDOT also reminds motorists they can call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions or log onto 511pa.com (includes traffic cameras on Route 28) before traveling.
