Sign Inspection, Tree Trimming to Occur on Route 28 Next Week

Here's a traffic update.

Motorists traveling on Route 28 next week should be aware of some projects.

Overhead sign inspections will occur in various locations next week, March 26 to 31, weather permitting.

Lane closures and traffic shifts will occur as needed according to the following schedule:

Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27 and 28

  • Southbound Route 28 between the Waterworks (Exit 7) and Etna/Route 8 (Exit 5) interchanges, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
  • Northbound Route 28 between the Highland Park Bridge (Exit 6) and Waterworks (Exit 7), 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
  • Northbound Route 28 ramp to the Highland Park Bridge; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Thursday and Friday, March 29 and 30

  • Route 28 both directions between I-279/I-579 ramps (Crosstown Boulevard/Veterans Bridge) and the Heinz plant/pedestrian overpass, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Short-term single lane closures also will occur in several locations on northbound Route 28 Tuesday through Thursday next week, March 27 to 29, weather permitting.

Crews will be trimming trees in the median between the Etna (Exit 5) and RIDC (Exit 10) interchanges. PennDOT and contractor crews will be trimming trees in median areas. Left lane closures may occur in both directions as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Motorists should use caution, allow extra time and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before traveling.
