An alternate route for outbound traffic wishing to avoid the work zone is provided using the 16th Street Bridge to Liberty Avenue to Butler Street through Lawrenceville to the 40th Street Bridge or the Highland Park Bridge to bypass the work zone. PennDOT, through a separate contract, constructed improvements at key intersections on the alternate route to facilitate better traffic flow and turning movements.

40th Street Bridge

The 40th Street Bridge at the intersection with Route 28 Millvale will be fully closed this weekend, Oct. 21 to 24.

All access to and from the bridge will be closed. Crews will be reconstructing the intersection with Route 28. The closure will occur from 8 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. All southbound traffic on Route 28 will use the new bypass lanes.
