Special Meeting Set to Discuss Dek Hockey Rink

After looking closely at plans for a dek hockey rink at Riverside Park, officials have many questions.

Update: The meeting will not be held May 23 due to scheduling conflicts. It has not been rescheduled. Check back for updates.
Before Oakmont Borough officials can go ahead with plans to install a dek hockey rink at Riverside Park, they want some questions answered.

Oakmont Council wants to schedule a special meeting to meet with the borough recreation board and possibly school officials to discuss plans to install the rink on the park's upper field.

The rink at the Oakmont park is expected to be located on the upper field (where the baseball field closest to the park and parallel to Riverview High School currently sits). The baseball field will be shifted toward the center of the field to make room for the dek hockey rink.

Now, officials are worried there might not be enough room for all activities on the field.

Councilman Tim Favo said preliminary plans don't include space for the javelin and shot put athletes, and Councilwoman Elena Colianni said the she's concerned about the proximity of the baseball and dek hockey areas.
