UPMC East to Host Open House

Visitors will be invited for a sneak peek of the new hospital, which opens in Monroeville on July 2.

UPMC East will be open for visitors this weekend—but only for a sneak peek.

The new hospital in Monroeville officially opens on July 2, but people are invited to check out the facility during an open house on Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The $250 million hospital is located at the Route 22 and Route 48 intersection.

On Friday, the state Department of Health announced that UPMC East passed all aspects of the licensure survey and granted licensure to the new 156-bed hospital.

Surveyors spent four days at UPMC as part of their review.

“This was a big undertaking — one that had to be completed on time in order for UPMC East to be ready to open on July 2,” says Mark Sevco, president, UPMC East. “We look forward to working with DOH and Joint Commission officials to receive our remaining approvals on some regulatory visits after we open.”

During the open house event, visitors are welcome to take a one-hour, self-guided tour of the new UPMC East hospital—including private patient rooms, the emergency department, surgical suites and other hospital departments. A Crazy Mocha coffee shop also is operating out of the hospital.

Light refreshments will be served for those who take the tour.

Those interested in attending must make a reservation by visiting openhouse.upmceast.com. Parking is available on-site in the hospital's parking garage.
