Winter Weather Advisory: Mixture of Snow, Sleet, and Freezing Rain Predicted for Morning Rush

The storm is expected to begin after midnight.

There could be very little rush to the Monday morning rush hour. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday for most of Western Pennsylvania, including Plum, Oakmont and Verona.

A mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected overnight into Monday morning. Due to very cold ground and snow pack, roads and sidewalks are expected to be icy.

  • Sunday Night—Snow and freezing rain before 5am, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet. Low around 29. Southeast wind 5 to 7 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Monday—Rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after noon. High near 44. Southwest wind 10 to 15 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Monday Night—Showers likely, mainly before 10 p.m. Widespread fog. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 43. Southwest wind 11 to 13 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
