Winter Weather Advisory: Snow on the Horizon

The National Weather Service advises motorists to use caution as temperatures plummet Thursday evening.

Temps might be in the 40s today, but snow is on the way.

Just before 1:30 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday.

Strong winds, snow and blowing snow are expected Thursday into Friday. Winds are predicted to be southwest at 20 to 25 mph with gusts of more than 40 mph possible.

Predicted snowfall is 3 to 5 inches near the I-80 cooridor and 2 to 4 inches elsewhere.

Rain showers will fall before 10 p.m. before turning into a combination of rain and snow showers between 10 and 11 p.m. The rain will give way to flakes after 11 a.m. with areas of blowing snow after 2 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Temperatures are expected to fall to the 20s Thursday evening, and remaining stead on Friday. Dangerous travel conditions—roads icing and limited visibility—are expected due to the quickly faling temperatures, high wind speeds and blowing snow.
