Caring for Someone with Alzheimer's Disease

Are you worried about a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's disease? Frustrated by the difficult behavior presented by dementia? Concerned
that a parent, spouse or friend is showing signs of developing this
disease? Don't be scared--be prepared!

Alzheimer's disease (and other, similar forms of dementia) is among the
fastest growing maladies to affect senior citizens here in Pittsburgh,
and the world over. While there is currently no known cure for dementia, preparation can help both caregivers and the
afflicted to manage the disease's symptoms and improve quality of life
for all involved.

In recognition of September being World Alzheimer's Month, Home Instead
Senior Care - Oakmont and the UPMC St. Margaret Geriatric Care Center
will host a free training session on caring for someone with dementia.
The training will provide a basic medical understanding of Alzheimer's
disease and dementia, techniques to manage difficult behaviors present
in dementia patients, and ways to effectively engage those with dementia
in spite of their diagnosis.
