'Stamp Out Leukemia Week' Leads to Annual 5K

This year's race will be held in memory of Plum grad Rachel Twigg.

It's Stamp Out Leukemia Week in Plum Borough, and it's all leading up to the annual Stampede in the Park 5K.

This year's race, which will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 8:30 a.m. in Boyce Park, is dedicated to Rachel Twigg.

On Feb. 26, Twigg, a 2005 Plum High School graduate and track athlete, died after a 4 1/2 year battle with Osteosarcoma.

In previous years, she was a grand marshall of the race. Twigg was a three-time WPIAL medalist and a two-time PIAA cross country qualifier. She is currently the highest PIAA Qualifier Cross Country finisher in Plum history, as well as a co-holder of the 3200-Meter Run record for Plum.

All proceeds from this year's Stampede in the Park will be donated to the Hillman Cancer Center in memory of Rachel. To make a donation in her memory, click here.
