The Blessings of a Tuesday Night

So what did you do last night? And how does that compare to the rest of the world?

How did you spend your Tuesday evening this week? Many of my friends (according to their Facebook feeds) spent it at the U2 concert. They posted an array of thoughts, feelings and pictures. It was obvious to me, as an observer, that they all felt it was an incredible experience and not a single person had anything negative to say.... not even a complaint about traffic!

But what about you? What did you do last night? My fiance and I went to the movies. We saw "Horrible Bosses." It was hilarious, inappropriate and outrageous, and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

We ran into some friends who were going to see "Captain America." The mall was buzzing with shoppers, so I cannot assume that U2 was the choice for everyone. Our theater was quite full, actually.

Another friend posted that he and his daughter spent yesterday and last night at Kennywood. Good for them! I miss it, that's for sure. But that trip I last wrote about was plenty for me. My feet STILL hurt!

I know many of you were glued to the TV, watching the Pirates lose to the Braves in a horrific 19th-inning bad call. The comments flying about that on Facebook showed what a huge group of Pirate fans I have as friends.

I ask again... what did you do? Did you spend time with family? Did you catch up on some reading? Were you hanging out at the local or ? Maybe your favorite shows are on Tuesday, so you occupied your spot on the couch last night for that?

So why do I ask about your activities? It struck me last night, as I was reading about everyone at the U2 concert, that it's such a beautiful thing that we have such a great variety of choices in our lives. No matter what you did last night (and yes, I would like to know), it was most likely something you chose to do.

So count your blessings that you have choices. You have friends or family or even just internet access that allows you to stay connected to the world around you. Maybe you are lucky enough to go to concerts or movies. Maybe you prefer quiet nights at the library or even just staring at the stars (they were beautiful last night!).

We are blessed by our options and opportunities. If you don't believe me, do a little research on other countries. Look at places where freedom is not an option. Look at places where clean water is not available. Check out countries in Africa and East Asia where just having a shack in which to lie down at night is a luxury. Do research on all the countries where millions of children die annually because they don't have the vaccines we do. Or maybe they go to bed with empty bellies every night. Gosh, you don't have to leave our country (or even our city) to find that.

I hope you spent your Tuesday night with those you love, doing something that brings you joy.

Yes, we are incredibly blessed.
