Up and Coming in Verona

Activities in and around Verona for the next week or two. Apple dumplings, Oktoberfest 2012, community dinner, Halloween doings, Bingo, and history,

Maybe you already know what is happening in Verona, but for those who don't and wish they did, the following is a brief synopsis of next week or so.

 

The Historical Society has added some new display cases that really perk up the room. The Historical Society meets the third Thursday of every month at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend. If you would like a preview of their 2013 calendar it can be found at www.veronahistory.org. P.S. Volunteers are needed so if you enjoy history be sure to attend a meeting and discover they ways you can volunteer.

The Twin Boro Health Ministries is hosting a Bingo on Sunday, October 21. The doors will open at the William McKinley School at 12:30 and bingo will begin at 1 pm. Tickets are $25. There will be a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, door prizes, food, drinks, and desserts. The Twin Boros Health Ministries have done many things in our communities, for example the Summer Lunch and Fun Camp and Community Dinners. To get tickets, call Shirley at 412-828-3412.

A Halloween party will be held Friday evening, Saturday, October 26 at 7:30 pm. The movie will be “The Pirates Band of Misfits.” The fun will be held in the Municipal building on East Railroad Avenue.

 

As always, “Trick or Treating” in Verona will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 31. The police and firemen will be out patrolling the community and also as always there will be plenty of parents. Enjoy the evening!

 

A Community Dinner will be held Wednesday, October 24 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in Verona United Methodist Church located on the corner of Herron and Center Avenues. You are invited to enjoy a delicious homemade dinner; have a blood pressure and pulse screening; meet with friends, and make new friends. There is no cost, but donations are graciously and gladly accepted. If you have any questions, call Karen Jacobs at 412-828-9499.

 

Oktoberfest 2012 presented by Riverview Community Action Corporation will be held Thursday, October 25 at RCAC's headquarters located at 501 Second Street, Oakmont. Two seating have been planned one at 4:30 pm and the other at 6 pm. Take Out is Available from 5:30 to 6 pm (a ticket is required). For just $10 you will be able to enjoy pork, bratwurst, potatoes, sauerkraut, schnitzel, and German Beer. So, purchase your ticket now for the seating of your choice by calling RCAC at 412-828-1062. They will gladly answer your questions too.

 

Don't forget: Wednesdays the Apple Dumpling Gang at Verona UMC is busy making apple dumplings for you to enjoy. Orders can be placed by calling Shirley at 412-828-3412 or Pat Humphrey at 412-793-3297. Dumplings are fresh, tasty, and $3.50 each.
