Janet (Jan) McCorkle

Janet (Jan) McCorkle, of Palm Harbor, Florida, formerly of the Pittsburgh area, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2012, at the age of 61.

Jan was the beloved wife of Mike McCorkle; loving daughter of Helen Ley and the late John Ley and treasured sister of Joe Ley, Dan Ley, Lois Mathews, Marilyn Kray and Nancy Stenger. She was an adored aunt to 12 nieces and nephews. Jan's life was further blessed with Mike's daughter Autumn Bell, her husband and their three daughters.

Jan attended Sacred Heart High School in Pittsburgh and is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. She had a successful career with Westinghouse, AT&T and Paradyne Corporation. Her greatest accomplishments, however, were her generosity and unwavering commitment to her family. As the oldest of six siblings, Jan was a constant source of encouragement, inspiration and humor. She was a real life "fairy godmother" to the kids that surrounded her and were lucky enough to grow up with her in their life.

With her devoted husband by her side, Jan heroically fought a 10-year battle with health issues. Together, they continuously beat the odds as they faced each challenge with grace and courage. Jan and Mike's optimism and love for each other is reflected in the reminder they give to their family, "Don't cry because our life together is ending, smile because it happened."
