Obituary - Jean Graham Hague

After a brief battle with Leukemia, Jean Graham Hague, of Fox Chapel, passed away.

After a brief battle with Leukemia, Jean Graham Hague, of Fox Chapel, passed away in the early morning of June 25th.  She was at home with her family. 

Jean was born in Munhall, PA to Grace Laird and Robert Graham.  After graduating from Munhall High in 1947, she pursued a career in nursing, attending Chatham Nursing School (formerly the Pennsylvania College for Women) followed by Allegheny General Hospital’s School of Nursing.  As a Registered Nurse, she worked at AGH, eventually becoming a shift supervisor and a nursing instructor.  In 1952, she married her high school sweetheart and went on to become the proud mother to four sons.  She eventually left nursing to become Head Patient Representative at AGH and began pursuing a Masters Degree in Guidance Counseling, which she received from Pitt in 1979.  After taking retirement from AGH, she moved to St. Margaret’s Hospital to become the Head of Volunteer Services, where she worked for ten years until her final retirement in 1996. 

An active retiree, she was a member of the Countryside Garden Club and served as an usher for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.  Before transferring to Shadyside Presbyterian Church, Jean was an active member of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church as an Elder, a Deacon, a wedding coordinator, and the flower coordinator. Her other interests included gardening, reading, the theatre, and summering at Van Buren Bay, NY.

Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, Fred R Hague, Jr., and her four sons, Fred R III, Robert Graham (and his wife Betsy (nee Vanderkolk)), William David, and Thomas Edward as well as her sister, Ruth Rutter.  She was aunt to three nieces, Jean, Mary Ruth, and Joyce and grandmother to David William Hague, Brian McCarthy Hague, and Annie Elizabeth Hague. She was predeceased by her parents and one grandson, Robert Graham Hague. At her request, there will be no visitation.  Jean is to be interred in a small family ceremony at the Columbarium at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church.  There will be a public memorial celebration at the Shadyside Presbyterian Church 5121 Westminster Place Pittsburgh, PA 15232 on Saturday, June 30th at 9.30am  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Robby Hague Memorial Scholarship (c/o Suzie Abercrombie, 101 Crescent Ave, Sewickley, PA 15143) and the Shadyside Presbyterian Church.
