Obituary - John K. "Jack" Mahaffey Jr.

John K. "Jack" Mahaffey Jr., passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.

John K. "Jack" Mahaffey Jr., passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at the age of 95, surrounded by family at Longwood at Oakmont.

Jack  was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Keith) Friday Mahaffey.  Mr. Mahaffey was the beloved father of Margo (Jay) Troutman, of Fox Chapel, Cam Mahaffey, of Denver, Colo., and Jacquelyn (Taffey) (George) Gall, of Cincinnati, Ohio.  He was the grandfather of Jay (Lisa) Troutman Jr., Jeffrey (Lauren) Troutman, Tracy (Scott) Delaney, Cam (Erin) Troutman, Scott (Melissa) Troutman, Emily (Stephen) Garrison, James Troutman, Carrie (Brent) Gravlee and Lindsay (John) Kusak, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Jack was a graduate of Peabody High School and Penn State University.  He served in the Navy during World War II as skipper of a mine sweeper in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart.  After the war, he joined his father in operating Mahaffey Equipment Co. in O'Hara Township until it was sold in 1992.  Jack was a Western PA Golf Championship Finalist in 1951.  He was a member of Oakmont Country Club for 74 years and was also Oakmont's representative on the USGA Executive Committee (1975-1980).

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 am Friday, December 14, in Christ Church Fox Chapel, 630 Squaw Run Road East.
