Here are some local obits.

Nellie Lenore Miller

Nellie Lenore Miller, of Oakmont, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the age of 94.  

Lenore is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Doris Triplett and Minnie Miller both of Fairview, WV; and her daughters Judy (Jim) Bridges and Susie (Jack) Nicholas, both of Oakmont; her granddaughters Sandy (Ed) Morgan of Ligonier, Lale (Tim) Laubach of CA, Natalie (Steve) Talpas of Oakmont and Lindsay (Ryan) Ehrlich of Oakmont; her great-grandchildren Brandon, Olivia, Mia, Alexander, Eva, Nicholas, and Grayson; and several nieces and nephews of Fairview, WV and surrounding areas.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Frank W. Miller, her brother William Davis, and sisters Rosalea Cummins, Jean Triplett and Margie Curfman.

Lenore enjoyed her home in Oakmont and contributed to the community as a volunteer for the RCAC delivering Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed baking and sewing, and making beautiful quilts by hand for grandchildren to enjoy.

Friends will be received Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 3-5 & 6-8 pm in the English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Avenue, Oakmont, PA, 15139 where a funeral service will be held Friday at 10 am officiated by Paul Barton, minister of Allegheny Valley Church of Christ in New Kensington.  Interment will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery, Connellsville, PA.

John T. "Jack" Brady

John T. “Jack” Brady, of Oakmont, died peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2013, at the age of 84. 

Jack was the husband of Helen (Quigley) Brady of 56 years; beloved father of five children:  Patricia (John) Rodella, Janice (Dwayne) Apple, Neil (Stacy) Brady, Michael (JoAnne) Brady, and Lisa (Christopher) Rickert.  He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, a grand nephew, and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Margaret Brady and a brother, Leo Edward. 

Jack was born in Rochester, N.Y. and moved to East Liberty, PA at age eleven.  He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School (1946) and the University of Pittsburgh (1952)  He enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school and also served in the U.S. Army.  He was employed by U.S. Silica for 35 years and retired as VP of sales.  Jack was a long time member of the B.P.O.E., the Moose and the American Legion.  Jack was elected a commissioner of Penn Hills in the 70’s, and served on the School Authority Board. 

Jack was very active in his catholic faith as a lector, church council member and usher in all communities in which he resided.  He served as a dedicated volunteer to many social programs including Meals on Wheels, and most recently, The Red Door of Saint Mary’s at the Point.  Among his many loves, Jack was an avid golfer of 70 years, and can boast of two hole in ones, and three times, shooting his age!  He also loved to play billiards, cards, and bocce.  He loved the Ocean. 

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday April 5, 2013 at 11:30 am in St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 387 Maryland Ave. Oakmont, 15139, officiated by Father Frank Kurimsky.  A luncheon at the Oakmont Elks Lodge #1668, at 106 Washington Ave, Oakmont will immediately follow.  Per Jack’s request, he would like his life to be celebrated with a party, the family welcomes you to join them! 

 There will be no viewing, so in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Red Door charity of St. Mary’s at the point, 202 Stanwix Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. 

A special thank you from Jack’s family to Dr. Edward J. Donnelly, III and the third floor support staff of Saint Margaret’s hospital, whose support and guidance were a blessing.

Beryl E. (Lacey) Simons

Beryl E. (Lacey) Simons, of Harmarville, formerly of Springdale and Oakmont, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Harmar Village Harmarville, at the age of 91.

Beryl was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Indianola, to the late Ira W. and Florence Mitchell Lacey, she was the beloved mother of David Simons, of Towson, Md., Barbara Smith, of Chardon, Ohio, Diane Richardson and her husband, Keith Spurgeon, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Richard Simons and his wife, Mary Jo, of Oakmont; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Larry W. and Robert I. Lacey; and her former husband, Dalton H. Simons whom she married in 1940 and raised their family in Springdale.  

Beryl was a graduate of Oakmont High School and Allegheny County Community ColIege.  She worked as director of medical records at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W.Va., until she retired in 1986.  Beryl moved to Oakmont, where she volunteered at Oakmont Carnegie Library and Presbyterian Senior Care.  She was a member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church.

A private funeral service for the family was held at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., Oakmont, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Wilson officiating.  Burial was private at Poke Run Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorials in her memory to Oakmont Carnegie Library, 700 Allegheny River Blvd., Oakmont, PA 15139.

Charlotte “Betty” (Meyer) Wilcox

Charlotte “Betty” (Meyer) Wilcox died Sunday, March 31, 2013.

Betty was born Feb. 3, 1920, daughter of the late Harry R. Meyer and Charlotte (Fulton) Meyer.  Betty graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and Ohio Wesleyan University.

Betty taught English and directed the drama club at Eaton High School in Eaton, Ohio until her marriage to the late Lemuel Howard Wilcox. Betty was active in Monroeville Garden Club, Monroeville Library, the College Club, P.E.O, and was on the board of directors for the Jane Holmes Residence.  Betty loved to read and found a lifetime joy in learning and travel. She was passionate about her family and adored her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Betsy (Wilcox) Moerschel and husband Merf Moerschel, Charlotte Wilcox, and Jessie (Wilcox) Fitchwell and husband, John Fitchwell and grandchildren, John A. Fitchwell and wife Alison Fitchwell, Trent H. Fitchwell, Andy R. Fitchwell, and L.C. Moerschel.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Nathaniel Wilcox. 

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 5, 2013 in the chapel at Longwood at Oakmont. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the P.E.O. Steve C. Agate

Steve C. Agate, of Versailles, passed away on Saturday March 30, 2013, at the age of 42.

Steve was the beloved son of David G. Agate Jr. and Stephanie (Glenn) Fiore.  Steve is survived by sister Lori (John) Markatos, brother David (Vicky) Agate and also nieces Kelly and Sheridan and nephew Chris Markatos.

Friends will be received Wednesday April 3, 2013 from 5-8 pm in the English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Avenue, Oakmont, PA, 15139 where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 12 noon officiated by Pastor Samuel Gunner.  

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Harvest Baptist Church, 224 Harvest Lane, Natrona Heights, PA 15065.
