Obituaries—Finzel, Churchfield, Hixson

Here are some local obits.

Finzel

Rosa Finzel, of Verona, PA, passed away on Monday December 10, 2012, at the age of 87.

Rose was the loving wife of the late John Finzel; proud mother of Alfred J. Finzel (wife Sandra) and Barbara Mastrogiacoma (the late Albert Jr.); delighted grandmother of seven grandkids, Kristina, Johnny, Fred, Ryan, Tiffany, Rosa and Albert III; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and also four brothers all from Germany.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, December 12 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the English Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Avenue, Oakmont, PA, 15139. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 am in St. Joseph’s Parish, Verona, PA.

The family requests all memorial contributions be made to The Pittsburgh Alzheimer’s Association, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15222, Suite E201.

Churchfield

John "Chump" Churchfield of Penn Hills, died suddenly December 8, 2012, at the age of 61.

Paul was the beloved husband of Deborah (Lawton) Churchfield of 32 years; dear father of Christine, Nicole, and Kristopher Churchfield; dear brother of Anna Psica, Judy (Trot) Glob, James (Debbie) Churchfield and the late Ralph Churchfield, Dolores Reese, Evelyn Airgood, and Homer Churchfield; grandfather of Keith and Kyle; special "buddy" to Daniel Sellers.  

Chump served in the Air Force during Vietnam War and was employed by OK Grocery.

Friends and relatives will be received at BURKET - TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont, Monday from 2-4, 6-9 pm.  A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am in the funeral home.

Hixson

Paul H. Hixson, of Springdale, died Saturday evening, Dec. 8, 2012, in his residence, at the age of 83.

Paul was born June 22, 1929, in Uniontown, to the late Ralph and Mary Felgar Hixson.  He was the beloved husband of the late Joanne Siemon Hixson, who died Oct. 29, 2012; father of Paul M. (Charlene) Hixson, of Springdale, Daniel J. (Patti) Hixson, of Saxonburg, and Heather A. Hixson, of Harbor Creek, Pa.; grandfather of Troy and Megan Hixson; and brother of the late Verna Matthews.

Paul retired from Westinghouse with 32 years of service as an accounting manager.  He was a longtime member of Springdale United Methodist Church, Springdale High Graduate class of 1947 and received an associate's degree from Robert Morris College.  Paul was in the Army during the Korean War.  He was a proud member of Springdale VFW Post 1437, Springdale Veterans association and served as treasurer since 1986.

The family will hold a private visitation Tuesday morning, followed by a graveside service at Springdale Cemetery with his pastor, the Rev. Wayne Shar, officiating.

If desired, memorials may be made to Springdale United Methodist Church in Paul's memory.
