Walter Joseph Johnston, of Alpharetta, GA, and formerly of Fox Chapel, PA, passed away quietly, at the age of 85, on March 22, 2013, surrounded by family.

Walt was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 35 years, 18 of which were as the Manager of the South Hills Village store.  At one point in his career, Walt was the youngest “A” store manager in the country.

Walt was an avid golfer for most of his life.  Although he never had a hole-in-one, he did have consecutive eagles during one round.  In his later years, Walt was a voracious reader and ardent follower of the political scene.  Walt retired to Hilton Head Island, SC, in 1985 and subsequently moved to Weeki-Wachee, FL, and Alpharetta, GA.

Walt was predeceased by his wife, Marcie, of 56 years in 2007.  He is survived by his five children:  Robert (Nancy) Johnston of Atlanta, GA; Charles (Jan) Johnston of Williamsburg, VA;  Barbara (John) Shaughnessy of New York City;  Caroline (Robert) Hybl of Fredericksburg, VA; and Frederic (Christine) Johnston of O’Hara Township, PA.  He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Walt was tremendously proud of his family and would brag about them constantly to anyone who would listen.
