Driver Charged After Hitting Pedestrian

The accident happened Saturday on Allegheny River Boulevard in Verona.

A Verona man has been charged with hitting a pedestrian with his car on Saturday.

Joseph Zelek, 57, was charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, reckless driving and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Zelek hit a pedestrian in front of the GetGo on Allegheny River Boulevard.

Verona police Chief Ron McLemore had said the victim, who is a 60- to 70-year-old man, was crossing Allegheny River Boulevard at Center Avenue when he was hit—Zelek was coming down Center Avenue.

The victim's identity or condition is not known, but he was transported to an area hospital and underwent surgery.
