Equitable Gas to Respond to Odor in Verona, Oakmont and Surrounding Area

Police have received reports of a natural gas smell throughout a widespread area.

Several police and fire departments have been inundated with calls about a natural gas smell in the area Wednesday morning.

Verona police Chief Ron McLemore said the smell has been reported from Verona, Oakmont and Springdale residents. There also have been reports from O'Hara Township.

McLemore said police and fire crews are standing by.

"We don't think there's an issue at this moment, but that could change," he said. "The smell is all over the place, but it's gotten better."

Equitable Gas has been notified of the problem and is sending crews to look into it.
