McLemore said police will continue to step up traffic enforcement in an attempt to get motorists to slow down.

"Obviously, be careful and watch your speed when you're driving," he said. "At the shopping center, you really need to slow down and pay attention to the people going in and out of stores, especially around this time of year when people are out and about."

Pedestrians also have a responsibility to keep themselves safe, McLemore said.

"They need to use the crosswalks and obey the traffic signals at intersections," he said. "Everyone needs to be more careful."
