Plum Man Faces Drug Charges After Traffic Stop in Whitehall

A traffic stop on Saturday, Aug. 18, led to drug-related charges against a Plum man.

A Plum man faces drug-related charges after a routine traffic stop in Whitehall Borough on Saturday, Aug. 18.

A Whitehall police officer stopped a motorist in the section of Clairton Boulevard (Route 51) at around 4:21 p.m. under suspicion that his vehicle's registration had expired, Deputy Chief Richard M. Danko said.

Upon approaching the motorist—Dominick Mastrogiacomo III, 29—the officer smelled marijuana coming from Mastrogiacomo's vehicle, Danko said.

The officer searched the vehicle and found a large bag of marijuana, five smaller bags of marijuana, a digital scale, a box of approximately 200 empty sandwich bags, a plastic bin containing three smoking pipes, and three other pieces of suspected drug paraphernalia, Danko said.

The items were confiscated, and police are charging Mastrogiacomo with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
