No One Hurt in Holiday Park Attic Fire

Crews from four Plum-area VFDs extinguished an attic fire on Settlers Court Tuesday night.

No one was hurt after a large attic fire in Holiday Park on Tuesday night.

Crews from , , and Sardis (in Murrysville) volunteer fire departments reported to a structure fire on the 300 block of Settlers Court in Holiday Park—near the Westmoreland County border—at 8:20 p.m.

"Smoke was showing from all sides of the structure when I arrived," said Larry Glass, Holiday Park VFD fire chief.

Companies on the scene were met with an active attic space fire. Crews were on scene fighting the fire, extinguishing hot spots and overhauling the attic area for about three hours. They also extinguished a large area of smoldering insulation caused by an electrical short.

Glass said an aggressive interior attack kept the damage to less than $15,000 worth.

"We were lucky," he said. "If the occupants would have been away for evening and not smelled the smoke, I am sure the outcome would have been more serious."

The family of three spent the night at a local hotel. The Allegheny County Fire Marshalls office is investigating the cause of the fire.
