Police Chief: Report Incidents Immediately

Oakmont police Chief David DiSanti is asking all residents who want to report something to police to do it immediately after the incident.

DiSanti said in two recent incidents, residents waited up to a day to report something to police.

One suspicious matter occurred on July 22, when a man said he saw another man in his 50s who appeared to be stroking his genitals and walking toward a group of girls jogging at Riverside Park. The witness made the report a day later, DiSanti said.

The other occurred on July 23 at about 2:15 a.m. when a girl walking on Hulton Road was approached by a motorist in a light blue van with a ladder rack. The girl said the man--who is described as white, in his 50s and having a mustache--was adamant about giving her a ride home. That report wasn't made until the next morning, DiSanti said.

The chief said a similar incident regarding a truck with the same description was reported a few months ago.

"I want to stress that residents should call 911 immediately when they see something," he said. "It's frustrating when time has elapsed."
