Police & Fire Report: Feb. 10 to 17

A round up of local fires, police charges and crimes in Plum and Oakmont.

Oakmont Police are looking for information about a stolen GPS device worth $10,000.

The device was stolen from a utility trailer on the Kacin Companies-owned property at the former Edgewater Steel site, Oakmont Police Chief David DiSanti said.

It was the only item stolen, he said.

Police are looking for places it might be sold illegally but also are soliciting the help of the community.

Fire

Oakmont Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at Monroe Towers on Delaware Avenue in Oakmont on Feb. 13.

A couch had caught fire in a fifth floor apartment, according to the fire report. Firefighters said the room contained oxygen tanks, but they did not ignite.

Emergency medical services treated the resident of the apartment on scene.

The fire department ventilated the area, and the Allegheny County Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.


Arrests

John Zupko, 32, of 668 New Texas Road in Plum, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, unauthorized use of an automobile and driving without a license.

Thomas Strayer, 39, of 15 Adams Drive in Cheswick, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Benjamin Hearn, 21, of 14 Koomatuck Drive in Plum, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Burglary

A Plum resident on New Texas Road reported that his front door was kicked in on Feb. 10, but there were no signs that someone entered the home. The resident said he returned home at around 4 p.m. to find the damage and that an audible alarm likely scared away the burglar.

A Center Road resident in Plum reported a broken window in the basement door on Feb. 14. No on was found inside, nor was anything missing.

ServiceMaster on Allegheny Avenue in Oakmont reported burglary of a petty cash box on Feb. 8.


Fraud

A Plum resident is out almost $700 after selling tickets to the Steelers and Ravens playoff game on eBay last month but never receiving the money. The resident received word that the purchase had been made with a stolen credit card.
