Sheared Telephone Pole Knocks Out Power in Oakmont.

The pole fell onto a house at the intersection of 8th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Portions of Oakmont were without power Tuesday after a telephone pole carrying three transformers fell onto a house at the intersection of 8th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, damaging the roof.

Dave Carroll, captain of the Oakmont Volunteer Fire Department, said subcontractors working for the Oakmont Water Authority to install new water lines were digging on Pennsylvania Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. when they knocked over the pole.

“It kind of shifted and fell on the house,” Carroll said.

Carroll said family members were at home when the pole landed on the building. No one was injured in the incident.

“The good news is there was no fire,” Carroll said. “Those are extremely high-voltage lines.”

Carroll said the accident knocked out power above 8th Street on Pennsylvania Avenue for about three hours.

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, portions of Oakmont below 8th street are still without electricity, he said.

Carroll said Duquesne Light replaced the pole. Power was fully restored by Tuesday evening.
