Squirrel Hill Robbery Suspect Arrested in Penn Hills

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force caught a bank robbery suspect on Milltown Road in Penn Hills—very close to the Plum border.

A Squirrel Hill bank robbery suspect has been arrested in Penn Hills.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Joseph Francis Guiney, 33, Thursday at 10 a.m. on the 1000-block of Milltown Road in Penn Hills, near the Plum border.

Guiney was identified by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police as a suspect in both the March 27, 2012, bank robbery of the First National Bank and the Oct. 31, 2012, bank robbery of the First Niagara Bank, both on Murray Avenue. 

Police had obtained warrants for his arrest. Guiney also is a suspect in two additional Squirrel Hill bank robberies.

According to a press release, Guiney attempted to escape into a back bedroom of the Milltown Road residence as task force officers attempted to arrest him.

Pursuant to the arrest, officers also recovered currency that was tainted in dye believed to be associated with the robberies.

Guiney was transported to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Headquarters for
processing.
