UPDATED: Three Charged in Plum Child Abuse Probe

The charges come after repeated complaints of abuse at Genesis Child Care in Plum.

Plum police charged three women this week in that allegedly occurred at the facility at in Plum.

Eileen Marie Andrews, 44, a worker at the facility, was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of simple assault and four counts of endangering the welfare of children. Childcare Director Angela Marie Russo, 49, was arrested Wednesday. Russo and Director of Children's Services Terry Lynn Bachner, 43, were charged with two counts each of endangering the welfare of children and failure to report abuse.

Genesis Child Care closed its doors on April 20, after the complaints surfaced and police acknowledged an investigation.

The criminal complaints paint a picture of Andrews as someone who regularly abused children physically, roughing them up and passing off injuries as accidents under the cover of negligent supervisors. Witnesses told police Russo and Bachner failed to discipline Andrews or notify authorities when multiple employees reported abuse.

Two employees, Ashley Adamski and Kelly Visnic, told police they saw Andrews grab a three-year-old boy by the face with both hands and lift him more than two feet off the ground last November. Later that day, Adamski said, Andrews apologized to her, saying “I got flustered.”

In another incident, employees Ashley Lovas and Christina Maruk told police, Andrews lifted a three-year-old girl and tossed her onto a floor mat because she was talking during quiet time.

The parents of that child told an investigator their daughter’s arm had been dislocated three times since August of last year.

Neither Russo nor Bachner documented numerous employee complaints that Andrews was abusing children, according to the criminal complaint. Russo was hired by Genesis in 2007 and promoted to director in 2010. Bachner had been employed since 1996.

Maruk told police that Russo instructed her not to speak of any incidents she witnessed when the Department of Public Welfare and Office of Children, Youth and Families began investigating. Russo sat in on Maruk’s interview with an investigator, Maruk said, interrupting an investigator’s question by saying, “Remember I asked you if you saw any abuse and you said no?”

Visnic, Lovas and Adamski had left the company by the time police interviewed them. All cited Russo’s and Bachner’s failure to address complaints when leaving.

Both Russo and Bachner told police they were aware of complaints but had not taken any disciplinary action or notified authorities.

Lee Kircher, senior pastor of the church, issued a statement to reporters by email Thursday night and said the church has no further comment at the moment.

“Our hearts and our prayers go out to the children, families and employees of the Genesis Child Care Center who have been affected by the alleged incidents and the closing of the center on April 20,” Kircher wrote.

“Even though the daycare center has closed, we maintain our strong commitment to build a next generation church and to make a positive difference in the lives of the hundreds of children who attend Pittsburgh East Community Church with their families every weekend.”

Preliminary hearings for Andrews, Bachner and Russo are scheduled for May 30 at Plum's District Court.

Maggie to me it just seemed that you re just eager to clear your 3 friends, and you are too gung ho to go after the accusers. thats what the court is for. I am keeping an open mind until the trials. And no, you commit a crime you pay the price. Be it the 3 women, or the 4 accusers. No I question the 3 dislocations in 6 months. Where were the parents. I did not blame the 3 women. I want to know how this happened
maggie May 29, 2012 at 01:41 AM
I AM eager, but, not because they're friends. Because they're innocent. Not like neighbors saying Ted Bundy "seemed like a nice guy." I have known Eileen for many yrs. She is caring, sweet, generous & makes a point to love & accept everyone. Good, bad, ugly, doesn't matter. She feels people's pain & would do anything for a stranger, let alone those she cares for. We learn in church to try to find the good in people. But,when Eileen looks at people, she sees what God sees. Loves them like He does. It may seem strange to you, & I'm sure some joker is going to slam me for saying it,but the honest to God truth is that she's the type of person I ASPIRE to be. & its hard to watch someone like that unjustly accused. Her whole life/calling has been caring for & ministering to children. And now, because of spite, the reputation she has hard EARNED is tarnished. Right or wrong,I AM gungho to go after the accusers. But,when I was all fired up,talking to Eileen, you know what she said? "They made a really big mistake. All they've done is guarantee that I will pray for them every day,for the rest of my life." She said,"I keep praying God will do something awesome thru all this. But,as I pray,I find myself coming back to praying for them.Their lives, their hurt, their provision, that God would draw them to Him & they would allow Him into their lives." THAT is Eileen. & the dislocations tingle my "spidey senses" too. For the girl's sake, I hope its nothing but also hope someone takes a deeper look.

To Samantha: Yes, that is exactly the Eileen Andrews we know and love. It shouldn't have surprised me when Eileen said (thru all of this ugliness) that she is praying for everyone - everyone in this situation. She always puts others ahead of herself - no surprise there. And that God will do something awesome with this.
some one who knows May 29, 2012 at 04:42 PM
as a former employee of this center, I have had all of my children in the care of at least two of the people arrested. I must say my youngest two did not really care for Eileen and one of them even told me at one point Eileen was going to smack her for talking during nap, until she saw me walk past the window. My other child was terrified of her and fought with me everyday about going to school there. I personally have witnessed roughness that never should have happened, It was all questionable at the time, however still not right. My oldest one liked her at first then said about 2 months later he did not want to go to church there anymore. I did leave the daycare for many reasons. One of which was what I witnessed and my complaints being ignored. I felt when I worked there Terry and the rest of the church treated employees differently as long as they attended the church. I am thankful that I got out when I did and embarrassed as a childcare provider that a "godly person" could treat children this way. I understand at times we all get frustrated with the children we care for but I know the families on a personal level before they even attended this daycare and feel horrible they had to go through this, however this still doesnt make what she did ok. Justice will be served and the truth will come out and you can believe what you want but knowing and seeing what I did I truly believe that everyone will be surprised in the end.
Barbara May 29, 2012 at 04:55 PM
To "someone who knows" odd name.... anyway, interesting - sounds like sour grapes - very interesting
Barbara May 29, 2012 at 04:56 PM
One more thing to "someone who knows" -- and why are you a former employee?
Marisa A. May 29, 2012 at 07:06 PM
I am a close personal friend to one of the "accusers" - as they are being called. She and I have been friends for over 20 years and I find some of the statements above completely infuriating. Let me assure you that she had no personal agenda in this other than to do the right thing and experienced a great deal of anguish over how to best handle the situation. She is completely mortified to have her name in the press and would love to make this all go away if she could. Also - I feel that I should add that the police did an investigation BEFORE anyone was arrested. As far as I know, they can't go arresting people without at least SOME probably cause. I do not know the "accused" and will not comment on their motivations or pass judgment on their guilt, and I ask that you do the same for my friend and her former co-workers.
George May 29, 2012 at 07:21 PM
The DA would not have signed off on the warrants if they did not have the evidence to proscute!
Pam May 29, 2012 at 07:52 PM
I have sat and written reply after reply and then deleted them because you know what...I said I wasn't going to stoop to this level. But I am now just sick over the comments rolling in here post after post...all defending Eileen and the other 2 as far as what wonderful people they are? So didn't eveyone think that Sandusky was the most upstanding man and had a life's mission to help young boys? WOW what happened there? And didn't everyone think that every priest has a calling from God to serve Him and His children? WOW what happened there?not everyone shows their true colors to everyone. I will say if the Eileen Andrews is doing some praying...I hope she is praying for you all and the safety of these children. I am the mother of the 3 year old boy and my child did come home with marks on him! TRUST ME!!! I brought them up! I was lied to!!!Don't even try to question parenting here. This investigation had been going on months before the center closed in April! MONTHS!!! And CYF---yeah they did a real thorough interview of staff members..some that worked in the room and some that didn't. And the ones that did had their immediate supervisor breathing down their necks. We will see how this all plays out in court...but I thank God everyday for the people coming forward to help protect my son! These witnesses are mothers, nurses, teachers etc. They have absolutely nothing to gain from coming forward other than peace of mind.
Pam May 29, 2012 at 08:01 PM
The CYF investigation that was done was a while back also...the CYF investigation that was done regarding these incidents was closed due to the fact it went to a criminal investigation with charges being pressed. So brush up on your knowledge of CYF...once the police are involved and an active investigation being persued CYF backs off in order not to jeapordize the investigation. And if these charges had no merit I highly doubt the DA would set himself up and waste tax payer dollars when there are I'm sure a bunch of things going on. So just see how it goes..And Barb..if you take your rose colored glasses off for a minute you might have read that the above poster left the daycare for multiple reasons but one was reporting what she witnessed and her reports being ignored. Just thought I would clarify that since your view seems a bit tainted. IT IS ABOUT PROTECTING CHILDREN, PEOPLE!!! Not about anything else...get that fact straight!
Barbara May 29, 2012 at 08:21 PM
We will just have to wait for the final outcome - people. Rather than take sides. But let me say this --- in a perfect world (which we are not) kids wouldn't get bruises playing with other kids or playing on the playground, running and falling on their own, on and on. Pam, I have taken my rose colored glasses off a very long time ago - thanks for your advice but no thanks
Ray S Lyle May 29, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Pam, I hope your son is Ok, My first post I said worry about the children, but that fell to deaf ears, more worried about the 3. Think someone who knows is right if you are not a church member your opionion means nothing. I belong to Riverside in Oakmont so you people cannot look down on me. Christians....... shame on you
Ray S Lyle May 29, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Barbara, way to show compassion to Pam.
George May 29, 2012 at 08:52 PM
Pam, you said it better than I could. I hope your son is safe now. Like I said in my post, if there's no evidence they wouldn't have been arrested.
George May 29, 2012 at 08:54 PM
Barb, yes kids will get bumps and bruises however they should not be afraid to to go to school or cry when they see a particular person.
Donna May 29, 2012 at 09:05 PM
Wake up. They buried everything knowing well that CYS was coming. I do know the people that "rescued" these children. Anyone who puts their own pride and righteousness above this issue has deep emotional problems.
Donna May 29, 2012 at 09:15 PM
Maggie and Adrienne that's very nice of you to defend your friend Eileen, however you don't know the "accusers" at all and demeaning them and call these women vindictive and vengeful is a bit out of line. Maggie, there was a cover up. The director telling employees to lie to CYF when they came to investigate and also telling parents lies who came asking about their child's "bumps and bruises." It truly amazes me that people refuse to believe 4 women who have NOTHING TO GAIN out of this. And the 15 minutes of fame comment is funny too because other than this article, I haven't seen the "accusers" faces anywhere. They had plenty of opportunity to talk when news vans came knocking on their doors, but they didn't! So you need to get your facts straight before you go slandering the names of women you have never met.
some one who knows May 29, 2012 at 09:46 PM
Barb apparently u need new glasses I said I left for several reasons one being that my complaints were being ignored. However another reason is better pay and benefits.... The center was bringing in money and instead if paying their qualified experienced employees they hired child abusers... But never could pay their employees that were worth something another reason the church is a cult anyone and everyone who attends it is being brain washed so now that we got that on the table and my opinions are said let's move on. Apparently barb u have no love for children because ur first question would have been omg what if that was my child.... Not knowing or caring who the abuser was that should have Been ur first thought. And Pam is right look at the Sandusky trial something here cover up abuse and it will bite u in the ass everytime!!!!! Good luck defending Eileen in my eyes she is and always will been a mean nasty person My kids will never be around again. Pam remember if I can help in any way u k ow how to get a hold of me!
someone who cares May 29, 2012 at 11:20 PM
I just want to say thank you for the accusers for doing the right thing! To protect the children is what we are supposed to do! You guys did the right thing, these people on here are just mad because they probaly found out that you didnt belong to their church! Well who would want to it was always known as the cult. I also want to say thank you to the people who are making comments and sticking up for the accusers and not the abusers! If you guys need me for anything and that includes pam I am here for you!
Donna May 29, 2012 at 11:35 PM
I will be waiting for you to apologize to the "rescuers' very soon.
maggie May 29, 2012 at 11:41 PM
The person calling themselves "Pam" can't possibly be one of the victim's parents. Know why? Because if you really were, the police wouldn't allow you to discuss the case in public (the "witnesses" can't either). I also doubt it because the REAL parent, would have been notified that the CYS/CYF investigations were UNFOUNDED,not "dropped." If they believed the allegations were true, they would have declared it "founded" & pushed it on to the police. They wouldn't put unfounded on a real child abusers record!! The abuser could continue to work with children! But, I've caught you in your own lies! Anyone can contact CYS/CYF & verify that. But, I appreciate you proving to the readers the type of liars involved in this case. Oh, & the police didn't decide to go ahead with the case until a month after CYS/CYF completed their investigation & deemed it unfounded (confirm with the police). The REAL parent of the alleged victim would know that. But, as I said, you've just proven the extent these liars will go. My job here is done. Too easy.
someone who cares May 29, 2012 at 11:42 PM
donna don't hold your breath about the rescuers getting an apology, the abusers wouldn't stoop that low to apologize and look the two bosses if thats what you want to call them couldn't protect the children!
Ray S Lyle May 30, 2012 at 12:04 AM
Tomorrow is the hearing, we'll start to see what's going on. Pray for the children!
Pam May 30, 2012 at 12:04 AM
Hey Maggie...go ask Eileen what the mother's name is. THat is public knowledge...ask any news reporter that was at my front door Thursday and Friday! Shame shame shame. I'm done with this bantering back and forth and won't discuss this matter any further. And Maggie my attorney has told me I can talk to anyone I please. The abusers have been told by their attorneys not to talk...not the police. The police investigation is over! Don't bother commenting...Maggie or Barb or whomever you are...I realize the caliber of people I'm dealing with here. I only wanted to say that this is about protecting children and that is exactly what the 4 women did! Protected my child and many other future victims and for that I am forever grateful!
someone involved May 30, 2012 at 12:15 AM
ok maggie now u have gone way too far! Who do u think u are?! How dare u say pam is a liar? I happen to know that family extremely well & am involved in this case in a major way! U have no idea what you are talking about! The police have been investigating this case since February....justice will be served....maybe you should put your energy and your words into praying for eileen, angela & terry!
someone who cares May 30, 2012 at 12:36 AM
way to go pam and also someone involved! Who does maggie think she is? Oh thats right the cult brainwashed her.those poor parents that took their kids there and got lied to all those years. But WE HAVE TO PROTECT THE CHURCH people and not the children thats how sick they are! Thats such a shame. the abusers go to church their faithfully and they lie, let's not tell the parents we can lie and say it was an accident. IT WAS NO ACCIDENT and from what I wasd told the director told eileens coworkers to lie to the parent who is pam! Also thank you whoever went to the police, you saved the children and this probaly from happening in other daycares!
Heather May 30, 2012 at 02:39 AM
Did some of you that posted on here loose sight of the one and only thing that is important here? These children have no voice. The only voice they have are those that are willing to stand and fight for what is right. Abusing children is not right by any means. No human being deserves that. The comments on here only make it more difficult for those that have been abused at some point in their life to come forward about it. Just because the accused is a " well respected" individual . This is not how we, as human beings should face these challenges. To Pam : You have set such an amazing example for your children. Keep your voice loud, as you are the voice for all that are vulnerable to abuse.
Donna May 30, 2012 at 10:36 AM
You are one of the reasons crime is not reported.
Michael May 30, 2012 at 10:49 PM
I am sure she is a really nice person, but people handle stress in different ways and then you add children to that. Some people are not meant to work with a group of children. I have been told by other former workers about hoe she did not treat children in a professional manner. You say she has always been nice to you. I am sure that is true, but I assume that you are older then six. I do not think she would rough you up. Just as people should not be quit to accuse, you should not be so quick to aquit. One of us are correct. I would never want my kid with an accused child abuser. What about you?
Susan September 07, 2012 at 05:17 PM
Dear Jesus, You know the whole truth. Protect and heal all involved, especially the children. Shine your light of Truth.
