Three Arrested in Oakmont for Breaking into Cars

Oakmont police have some advice for residents: Lock your cars!

Three men were arrested in Oakmont on Wednesday after police caught them stealing from vehicles throughout the borough.

According to Oakmont Police Chief David DiSanti, a resident of the 800-block of Fourth Street called police at around 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday to report someone stealing from cars.

The resident said the man was wearing dark clothes, carrying a Target bag and trying door handles of vehicles on the street.

Police found the man on the 300-block of Porte Street a short time later. DiSanti said he was intoxicated and his "pockets were bulging." Police found iPods and marijuana on him.

A short time later, a resident on the 600-block of Fourth Street reported seeing man with a bloody, bruised hand stealing from his neighbor's car. Police confronted the man and found a GPS, a charger, a casette tape adapter, sunglasses and cellphones on him.

They then found and arrested a third man on Maryland Avenue—the man had a CD player, a satellite radio head and other items.

DiSanti said he is holding off on identifying the suspects due to continuing investigations, but he did say the men would be charged with theft, loitering and prowling at night, public intoxication and other drug-related charges.

He asked that resident begin to lock their cars.

"We say it over and over," DiSanti said.

Just last week, police arrested and charged a man who was stealing from vehicles in the neighborhood. In February, at least 16 cars were broken into.
