Two Sentenced to Probation in Plum Child Care Abuse Case

Two former Genesis Child Care employees have received probation sentences after incidents from last year.

Two of three women accused of being involved in a child abuse case at the Genesis Child Care at Pittsburgh East Community Church in Plum have been sentenced to probation.

According to court documents, former childcare worker Eileen Marie Andrews, 45, of Penn Hills pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault of a victim younger than 12 during a non-jury trial in Allegheny Court of Common Pleas Tuesday. She was sentenced to six months probation. Other charges of endangering the welfare of children and simple assault were withdrawn.

Angela Marie Russo, 50, of Plum pleaded guilty to a charge of failure to report abuse. Russo, the former childcare director, was sentenced to three months probation. Other charges of failure to report abuse, endangering the welfare of children and school employee—administrator abuser were withdrawn.

Former director of children's services Terry Lynn Bachner, 43, of Murrysville pleaded no contest to failure to report abuse. She faces no further penalty. Other charges of failure to report abuse and endangering the welfare of children were withdrawn.

Plum police filed the charges against the women in May 2012, after reports surfaced that Andrews would abuse children at the childcare facility, which closed in April. Russo and Bachner were accused of failing to notify authorities when multiple employees reported the abuse.

Boy do I ever...this is indicative of all that's wrong with our Justice system..probation?..What would they get if they murdered a child?..A made for TV movie?..Wake up fools the wolf is at your door.

A smack on the wrist, I see...that's less than what was done to those poor kids. So sad this happened at a facility I trusted with my child. I heard from several people who go to this church and were involved with the daycare that some of these women are still involved with the church and possibly children at the church. Good luck with that.

Why was the third woman not charged as well? Considering that SHE was the day care/childrens ministries director, she should be held accountable as well!
Concerned January 31, 2013 at 04:13 PM
Erin, I agree. I have also heard that Terry is still very involved in the church's childrens minitiries!

Thankfully, the other 99% of the staff at the day care truly loved the children and took great care of them.

Concerned -- yes! I am so grateful for those loving, true caregivers that I was blessed to meet and still call friends.

We have known Eileen and Terry for nine years in many capacities, and each of them has never been anything other than amazingly kind, generous, and upright to our children and family and to those they have served through the church. They are women of integrity, and I do believe they were unjustly accused. These women have poured nothing but encouragment and respect into the lives of children at Pittsburgh East, and they have walked the last year after such horrific allegations with integrity and strength of character.

The good thing is the two of them won't be able to work with kids again because they're background check will come back with the charges .. Also I just wanna say to the people doubting this truly happened why would innocent people plead guilty to something they didn't do? If it was me I would never take a plea if I was innocent.. The daycare was a really nice lol ace and they ruined it. That's in their consciences.

It's so tiring to hear people continually praise these women's names over and over again. One of them abused children, two of them covered it up. A good and trusted daycare closed because of it! Children are scarred forever...people's lives were torn upside down. I don't care how well you think you know them or how holy you think they are. Did you hear the evidence against them? Did you see that they pleaded guilty? Yes, I'm sure they took a plea bargain. What innocent person in their right mind pleads guilty for a plea bargain...one who knows there's sufficient evidence against them. Wake up!! I'm saddened that after all the upheaval they caused, 6 and 3 months probation is all they'll be receiving.

I've heard from someone who goes to that church that "attendance is up since this happened" which is apparently all they care about, their offering money.
