Verona Fire Spreads to Apartment, Moose Lodge Destroyed

Firefighters have been at the scene on East Railroad Avenue since just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Local firefighters have been battling a fire on East Railroad Avenue in Verona for about six hours. No injuries have been reported.

The at the Moose Lodge. The Moose has since collapsed.

Firefighters from the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, and Penn Hills Fire Department had tried to contain the fire to prevent it from spreading to neighboring apartment buildings.

However, the fire did spread to at least one of the units. Early this morning, three families had been evacuated from their homes.

The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army have been assisting the families.

Witnesses at the scene said it's "heartbreaking" to watch the club go down in flames.

Police are directing traffic throughout lower Verona. South Avenue is closed off completely, and East Railroad Avenue is blocked from Jones Street to South Avenue.
