Verona Police Investigate Shooting

Here are the Verona police reports for April.

The Verona Police Department is investigating a late-night shooting that injured one person a little over a week ago.

On April 27 at about 3:43 a.m. police were called to the Marina Pub on Arch Street after reports that a man had been shot. According to police, a 22-year-old had a gunshot wound in his leg. He told police he was leaving the bar with a friend when a black man in a black hooded sweatshirt sprayed him with pepper spray.

According to the report, the suspect then shot the man in the leg and ran off. He has not been identified, and county police have taken over the investigation.

Burglary

The Beer Nutz on Allegheny River Boulevard was broken into on April 23. According to police, two black males threw a large rock through the business' window and stole cigarrettes and beer. County police continue to investigate the incident.

Police also filed the followinf charges at the office of Penn Hills District Justice Leonard HRomyak:

  • Dorothy Jill Demko, 58, of Verona was charged with prohibited acts on April 5.
  • Scott Allen Shipley, 39, of Verona was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, careless driving, reckless driving and accidents involving an unattended vehicle on April 14.
  • Niesha Watts, 27, of McKeesport was charged with burglary and criminal mischief on May 2. Her charges stem from a July 29, 2012, incident.
