Holiday Park VFD Files Lawsuit Against Councilman

Councilman Keith Nowalk leased property from the fire department for his business.

The Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department is suing a Plum Borough councilman who leased its property for his business.

According to the Plum Advance Leader, the department is accusing Councilman Keith Nowalk of failing to pay close to $200,000 in rent/renovations for the property that housed Nowalk's Daily Grind before it closed in May.

The Daily Grind, a pizzeria and bakery, operated out of the property adjacent to—and owned by—the fire department for three years. Its sister store on Saltsburg Road in Penn Hills also closed.

According to the Advance Leader, Nowalk's 10-year lease expired in 2019. The fire department seeks $10,540 in unpaid rent, $179,180 in accelerated rent through 2019 and almost $8,000 in attorney fees and late fees.

Recently, the Plum-Oakmont Patch asked readers to weigh in on what should open at the property. Readers expressed an interest in a diner.
