Oakmont Council Notebook: December Work Session

A rundown of issues discussed at council's December work session.

Here's a round up of issues discussed at Oakmont's council meeting:

Dark Hollow Road Zoning

Oakmont officials are considering zoning changes for Dark Hollow Road.

The changes would take the area's current industrial zoning and change its designation to light industry zoning.

The difference, council President Timothy Favo said, is essentially the difference between zoning for a steel mill and zoning for an automotive repair business.

Any business in the area under the industrial zoning would be grandfathered in, he said.

Council members also are looking into a green space designation for part of that area.

The changes are part of a 50 year master plan for the borough, Favo said.

Preliminary Budget to be Passed

They can't say much about it yet, but council members plan to pass the borough's preliminary 2012 budget on Dec. 12.

Beginning Dec. 13, that budget will be available at the borough building at 767 Fifth Street.

Officials couldn't say on Monday night if the proposed budget would include a tax increase for the borough.

"You hate to say anything until it's settled," said council Vice President Nancy Ride.

Recreation Commitee Seeking Nonprofit Status

Councilwoman Kitty Vagley asked her fellow council members to consider giving the borough's recreation committee the go-ahead to apply for nonprofit status.

The status, she explained, would allow the group to seek donations.

Appointments

A number of individuals will be appointed and reappointed to various committees, board and commissions at council's Dec. 12 meeting.

Those appointments include positions on the Boulevard Project, Kerr Museum, Zoning Hearing and Recreation Boards, the Civil Service and Planning Commissions and the Municipal Authority Board of Governors.

Ecology Club Seeks Bins

Riverview's Ecology Club has asked the borough to donate 15 recycling bins.
