Oakmont Borough Council Notebook—New Councilman, Track & More

Thomas J. Briney appointed, track discussions, street name signs and more were discussed at this week’s Oakmont Borough Council meeting.

Here is a round-up of items discussed at the Sept. 10 Oakmont Borough Council regular meeting:

Thomas J. Briney Appointment

Longtime Oakmont resident and former borough planning commission chairman Thomas J. Briney was appointed to serve out the remainder of the position left vacant by Council Member Kitty Vagley.  Briney was unanimously appointed to Council and was sworn in by Mayor Robert Fescemyer. For more, .

Potential Riverside Park Track Issues

Borough Manager Lisa Jensen presented an email to council addressing issues to the recently installed track at . 

Reports of motorcycles, wheelchairs and other potentially damaging devices have been seen on the new track, which could result in extensive damage to the track. There are signs posted around the track noting that these devices are not allowed on the track.

Discussion will be made in the near future regarding the possibility of acquiring a security camera to monitor the track 24 hours a day or other possible solutions to protect the track.

Street Name Signs to be Installed

Council Member Laurie Saxon reported that 59 street name signs will be installed on streets that no longer have signage. 

Galvanized posts were chosen to support the signs for their durability, longevity and because they are aesthetically pleasing, she said.

Next Meeting

 Council will meet on Oct.1 at 7 p.m. for its workshop meeting. The next regular meeting will take place on Oct.8.
