Oakmont Council Notebook: May Voting Meeting

A roundup of issues discussed at Oakmont Council's May voting meeting.

Oakmont Borough unanimously awarded a $405,888.76 contract to Shields Asphalt Paving for its 2011 road improvement project.

While there is no definite date on when the street paving will begin, Councilman Tim Milberger said work could start in as early as two weeks.

The plan includes improving the following streets:

  • Pennsylvania Avenue, from 13th Street to 14th Street.
  • Seventh Street, from Pennsylvania Avenue to Maryland Avenue.
  • Fir Way, from Pennsylvania Avenue to the dead end.
  • Library Place, from Allegheny River Boulevard to 4th Street.
  • Washington Avenue, from Allegheny River Boulevard to 8th Street.
  • 11th Street, from Delaware Avenue to Washington Avenue.
  • California Avenue, from Fifth Street to Sixth Street.
  • Second Street, from Delaware Ave to the dead end.
  • Third Street, from Delaware Avenue to Washington Avenue.
  • Isabella, from the dead end to Delaware Avenue.
  • Wade Lane, from Hulton Road to Elm Crest Drive.
  • Elm Way, from Maryland Avenue to Delaware Avenue.
  • Potomac Street, from the dead end to Allegheny Avenue.

Mayor Robert Fescemyer alerted council to a road depression on Allegheny Avenue, south of Pennsylvania Avenue. The board members said they would pass the message to PennDOT since the street is a state road.

Council unanimously voted to extend to the 30-day trial period to change and improve parking and traffic patterns in Morris Estates for another 30 days.  The trial will now end June 11.

The reason for the extension was “to try to give the businesses in that area a chance to see that the parking doesn’t affect their businesses,” Councilman Ronald Scott said.

“We’re trying things out and seeing how it goes,” Council President Tim Favo said.

The council board unanimously approved a new ordinance amending and revising the schedule of fees regarding building permit applications.

“We’re just getting this in line with what’s been going on historically,” Tim Favo said.
