Oakmont Council Notebook: Park Hours, Curb Project & Police

Several items were discussed at the Jan. 14 Oakmont Council voting meeting. Here's a roundup:

Park Hours

The Riverside Park operating hours will change.

Council agreed to change the park hours to the following: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. during standard time and 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. during Daylight Savings. The park used to be open from dawn until dusk, but rec board members have said more people are using the newly installed track during the early morning and late night hours.

New Park Name

The new park to be located along Dark Hollow Road has been named.

Officials agreed to name the park Creekside Park—it is located near Plum Creek, and it ties in with Riverside Park.

Police Report

Oakmont police Chief David DiSanti welcomed new part-timer Christian Baker. He said the department recently has lost three part-time officers to other full-time positions, and more will need to be hired soon.

DiSanti also reported that officers have been doing extra patrols at borough schools since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut last month.

Curb Project

The borough engineer is going to begin working on specifications for the 2013 curb project. Work is set to include the 200 block of Allegheny Avenue and a portion of the 800 block.
