Oakmont Police Chief, Mayor Defend Need for More Officers

The debate over the Oakmont Police Department budget for 2013 continued on Monday.

According to the Tribune Review, Oakmont officials said they were looking at items to cut in an attempt close an $80,000 deficit to balance the 2013 preliminary budget.

Oakmont police Chief David DiSanti and Mayor Bob Fescemyer defended their request for an extra $40,000 in the police budget—money that would pay for part-time shifts, higher fuel costs and possible raises, according to the Trib.

A preliminary budget is expected to be passed on Monday. The current millage rate in Oakmont is 4.5 mills—a resident pays $450 in real estate taxes for every $100,000 of assessed property value. Officials said it's been about four years since the millage rate increased.
