Plum Council Notebook: April Voting Meeting

Council put plans for its deep well drilling ordinance on hold and voted to hire an earned income tax clerk. CPR classes are to be offered and Larry Mills Paradise Park will be closed for repairs.

It’s back to the drawing board for the borough’s deep well drilling ordinance.

Council voted at its Monday night regular meeting to table advertisement of the ordinance, which would set standards for proposed deep well drilling.

Officials said they decided to do so to allow them to rework the ordinance.

“We want to get it right the first time,” council President Mike Doyle said.

Members also tabled the motion to set a date for a public hearing regarding the ordinance.

All were in favor of the motions to table the drilling-related items. Council member Charles McMeekin was absent.

Mayor Richard Hrivnak encouraged those living in the borough to review two websites with drilling information, the data site www.fracktracker.org and the League of Women Voters website.

Both contain non-biased information about deep well drilling, Hrivnak said.

“I’m not pro or anti-drilling, I’m pro-Plum resident,” he said.

In other news:

  • Council voted to hire Lisa Lagnese in a temporary full-time earned income tax clerk position. Lagnese will make $16 per hour with no benefits. The position is considered temporary because the borough’s earned income tax office will close in July 2012, borough officials said.
  • Council tabled an ordinance setting term limits for elected positions due to the absence of McMeekin. McMeekin had previously proposed the ordinance at this month’s work session.

“I don’t think it’s right for us to vote on it since it was his idea,” Doyle said.

  • Bob Moran of the Plum EMS reported that CPR classes will be held April 21 at the borough building at 4575 Center New Texas Road. The cost is $25 or $40 for two people registering together. Anyone interested in registering can call 412-793-4801.
  • Larry Mills Paradise Park on Fontana Drive will be closed for maintenance and pavilion repairs April 25 to 28.
