Plum Council Notebook: January Meetings
Larry Mills Park playground, public works permit and new committees were among the items discussed at the January Plum Council meetings.
Here's a roundup of items discussed at Plum Council's Jan. 3 and 9 council meetings:
Public Works Permit
Work to relocate the public works department to Renton can begin.

Assistant borough manager Greg Bachy announced the borough received a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to begin the project more than 500 after applying for it.
The project includes the construction of a public works building, a facility to store winter salt and storage space.

The next step is the bidding process, which could begin next month.

Officials are hoping to secure funding for the wooden playground.
Councilman Steven "Skip" Taylor, the former parks and recreation chair, said he has reached out to state Rep. Tony DeLuca in the hopes of getting some funding to replace the structure, which is more than 10 years old.
Taylor said he would update new Councilman John Anderson, who was appointed to be the parks and rec chairman.
Mayor Rich Hrivnak said he might know some people who would be interested in investing in the project.
New Committees
Councilmembers were assigned to the following committees:
- Finance: Mike Dell, chairman; Keith Nowalk; and John Anderson.
- Personnel: Nowalk, chairman; Leonard Szarmach; and Steven "Skip" Taylor.
- Public Works: Szarmach, chairman; Anderson; and Nowalk.
- Parks and Recreation: Anderson, chairman; Dell; and Don Knopfel.
- Planning and Economic Development: Taylor, chairman; Knopfel; and Dell.
- Public Safety: Knopfel, chairman; Szarmach; and Nowalk.
- Intergovernmental: Dell, Nowalk and Taylor.
