The pending retirement of long-time public works Director Bill Berchick has led to some restructuring in Plum's public works department.

Council recently voted to promote Carl Taylor to oversee the buildings and grounds portion of the department, and Bill Binnie to supervise the roads and infrastructure, according to the Plum Advance Leader.

Taylor will be paid a salary of $60,000, and Binnie's annual pay will be $63,000, with includes a $3,000 premium for working about 200 hours a year to call out public works employees during winter snow events, the Trib reports.

Taylor and Binnie each have more than a decade of experience, Plum Manager Michael Thomas told the Trib.

With Berchick retiring this month, council eliminated the public works director position and split the job in two. The move is expected to save the borough about $75,000 a year.
