Riverview Officials Adopt Budget With Tax Increase

The new budget represents a tax increase of 0.5686 mills.

Residents in the Riverview School District will be paying more in real estate taxes.

On Monday, the school board approved a $17.9 million budget, which includes a 0.5686-mill real estate tax increase. The millage rate has increased to 25.355 mills.

With the tax increase, residents would pay an extra $56 for each $100,000 of assessed property value.

The budget includes the addition of an elementary school teacher at Tenth Street; an extra $10,000 for AP Exam reimbursement; an extra $45,000 for technology; and the demotion of in the foreign language, physical education and instructional support departments.

Board member John Hackworth said it was a tough process getting to a final budget.

"We wrestled with this for quite some time," he said. "It's been a challege."

Board member Dave Kadylak agreed.

"I think it's a fiscally responsible budget, and I thank everyone for their hard work," he said.

The final budget will be on public display at the following locations beginning July 1:
