Superintendent's Search

District officials are working on finding a replacement for Superintendent Chuck at the end of the school year.

The school board approved a $10,400 contract with the Pennsylvania School Board Association to conduct a superintendent search.

Erdeljac has worked in public education for nearly 40 years. The past 13, he has served as Riverview’s superintendent.

The district is seeking candidates through the PSBA's statewide network for the opening Erdeljac’s retirement leaves behind.

Superintendent candidates will apply through the PSBA website.

Contract Extended

Frank Thompson will continue to serve as the Riverview School District business manager.

The school board approved a contract, effective July, 1, 2012 through June 20, 2016.

Thompson, who was absent from the meeting, expressed gratitude to the board via board member David Kadylak.

Departing Board Members

School board members Anne Shearon, Mary Kay Stein and Joe DiMario attended their last meetings on the board.

All three thanked their fellow board members and administrators for a good run, and in turn, they were thanked for their service.

Leaves/replacements

The board approved the following leaves of absences:

Nicole Young, Verner Elementary teacher, effective Nov. 15.

Maria Previni Hocanson, Verner Elementary teacher, effective Nov. 16 through Dec. 14. Amy Davis was appointed as the long-term substitute for the class.

Rachelle Poth, teacher, effective Nov. 10.

Megan Sather, teacher, effective Dec. 12 through May 7. Rick Nese has been named the long-term substitute for her class.

Jennifer Spenik, Tenth Street teacher, through Jan. 20. Becky Buttgereit has been named the long-term substitute for the class.

Melissa Walewski, Tenth Street teacher, through March 30. Kristen Hoskinson is the long-term substitute for the class.

Beth Orbin, Verner teacher, effective Jan. 23 through June 8. Ashley Duncan has been named the long-term substitute for the class.

Resignation/replacements

The resignation of Emily Mitchell, Tenth Street counselor, is effective Dec. 31. Emily Lapcevic has been hired as a temporary professional employee—guidance counselor at Tenth Street—effective Jan. 3.

Dara Ketterer, a paraprofessional at Verner, resigned Oct. 31. Debra Loeffler was hired as a paraprofessional to replace Ketterer.

Hiring

Ann Stavrakis has been hired as a paraprofessional at Riverview Junior-Senior High School, effective Dec. 1. She is replacing Linda Aber, who resigned.

Coaches

Tim Lazor and Steve Smolen have been named junior high boys basketball coaches for the 2011-12 school year.

Eric Blair also has been named a volunteer assistant coach for the varsity boys basketball team.

Teacher Interns

Joshua Picozzi will be a mathematics teacher intern at the district. Steve Cottingham will be an English teacher.
