Verona Council Notebook: July Workshop Meeting
A roundup of items discussed at the July 26 meeting.
Here are some items discussed at the July 26 Verona Council meeting.
Digital Code Book
Verona Council agreed to pay $2,000 for General Code to update the borough code book and upload it onto the borough website.
It will cost $7,600 for the Rochester, NY company to complete the code book upgrades. The borough would be able to pay off the charge in installments.
The Verona Historical Society has already donated $2,000 for the code book upgrade, and council members say the online posting would help not only the residents but the building inspector as well.
Building Inspector
Verona has sought additional help in the absence of building inspector Mark Snyder, who has been unresponsive to the borough’s request that he resign.
Council agreed to offer George Lender, of Building Inspector Underwriters, a two-week temporary position until the borough can assign him a permanent position at next month’s voting meeting. Lender has 12 years of experience as a code enforcer, said council member Rhoda Gemellas-Worf.
Snyder has not been coming to work and he has not submitted a work plan, said Verona Council President Sandy Drabiki-Bell.
Snyder also has borough database information, officials said.
“He has our property,” said councilman Tony Futules.
There’s currently only one person supervising building inspection for the borough, said Gemellas-Worf.
“He needs help, and he needs help now,” she said.
"Rockin' in the Park"
The Verona Chamber of Commerce is pulling its sponsorship from the “Rockin' in the Park” event.
Council members said the Chamber never has been an official sponsor of the event, but it will continue to donate to the event as it has in years past.
