Winners of Plum School Board Race Include Two Incumbents, Three Newcomers

Two incumbents keep their seats and three newcomers with no prior experience take theirs in the Plum School Board election race.

It's a mix of old and new in the Plum Borough School Board race results.

Among the winners are an incumbent who has served on the board for 20 consecutive years and a new director who just graduated from high school last year.

Based on the results with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Richard Zucco, who ended up on the Republican and Democrat tickets, was the top vote-getters with 3,174 votes.

Zucco was followed closely by incumbent Democrat Tom McGough, who has served for five consecutive terms. McGough received 2,923 votes.

Republican John St. Leger received 2,683 votes and Joe Tommarello, also a Republican, received 2,612 votes.

Democrat incumbent Loretta White rounded out the top slots with 2,570 votes.

All results are unofficial until confirmed by the county election bureau.

“I’m looking forward to working with the new board,” White said. “I think we’ll be able to come together well. I think we’ll be able to work together.”

White, a retired teacher, has served on the board for the past six years.

Of the fresh faces being added to the board is one with a different kind of Plum Borough School District experience—Joe Tommarello, who graduated just last year from the district’s high school.

“I’m looking forward to bringing positive change to the Plum School District,” he said. “I look forward to working with all members of the school board.”

Tommarello said he thinks a younger crowd supported him at the polls. He mentioned that college students voted by absentee ballot and high school seniors turned out as well.

“It’s very humbling. I couldn’t have done this without the support of my family, friends and the students of the Plum School District."
