The Foundation was created in memory of Ralph W. Young, who was born into a poor family in Verona. He supplemented his family’s meager income by starting to work at age 9 as a caddie at the former Westmoreland Country Club. Upon graduating from Verona High School, the country club members awarded him with a Caddie Scholarship.

Young attended the University of Pittsburgh and eventually owned a very successful firm in downtown Pittsburgh until his death in 1996.
