Adlai Stevenson Elementary Jog for a Cause

The school students participated in a jog-a-thon all last week to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

students just completed the school's 13th annual Make-A-Wish Jog-a-Thon last week.

About 85 percent of the students gave up their recess all week to spend time running, jogging or walking around the track to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Students in grades K to 2 received sponsors for each lap around the track completed. Students in grades 3 to 6 had sponsored miles.

J.R. Pilyih, teacher and member of the Adlai Make-A-Wish Committee, said it's a great program for everyone involved.

"Students are not only getting plenty of exercise each day, they are giving up their recess time to jog for a good cause," he said. "It builds muscles and character."

Over the years, the school has raised about $70,000 for the foundation. Pilyih said if students receive all their promised sponsorships, the school will reach its annual goal of $7,000.

The main goal, however, is to have fun and create awareness.

"Our goal is to have fun and show the students how they can help others," Pilyih said. "The kids are very excited each year.  It is amazing how they are always telling their little brothers and sisters that they need to sign up and how much fun it is."
