Erdeljac Reaches the Home Stretch as Riverview Superintendent

Riverview Superintendent Chuck Erdeljac will be retiring in a week after 13 years in his position.

Riverview School District Superintendent Chuck Erdeljac started his run in his current position 13 years ago, at the time that members of the Class of 2012 were starting kindergarten.

Those students have graduated, and Erdeljac will be retiring at the end of the month.

The district superintendent sat at his last school board meeting as an administrator on Monday. Board members recognized his hard work throughout the years with a standing ovation and his colleagues celebrated with refreshments and treats at the end of the meeting.

"I wish to recognize him with the service he has performed," said school board President John Hackworth. "Being superintendent has not gotten easier … Chuck has not had the opportunity to coast into retirement (with work on the budget)."

Erdeljac thanked everyone for their support.

"It's been my pleasure," he said.

Erdeljac began his career as an English teacher at Riverview in the 1970s. He was also a football coach, a track coach and the sponsor of the school’s newspaper in his eight years at the high school.

From there, Erdeljac went to North Allegheny, where he was a principal for six years, and Hampton High School, where he was a principal for 18 years.

An Oakmont resident for 56 years, Erdeljac said he plans to stay in Oakmont with his family and grandchildren.

Peggy DiNinno will be the new Riverview superintendent beginning July 1.
