Construction at the new George Pivik Elementary School in Plum is ongoing, but students got a sneak peek at the facility earlier this month—the school officially will open in August.
The Plum School Board announced that a dedication ceremony for the new school will be held Monday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. Open houses complete with tours then will be held Aug. 21 for students and parents, and Aug. 22 for the community.
Officials said the dedication ceremony will be a simple, low-key affair. More details about the ceremony and the follow tours will be available next month.
The school—located on School Road across the street from —is expected to be finished soon, and students will begin the 2012-13 school year at the new facility.
Dennis Russo, an independent contractor serving as the district representative for construction, said students were "thrilled" to briefly walk through their new school before the school year ended.
"It's been a great project," he said. "I'm very happy."
